The Union of India as of today is composed of 25 States and 7 Union Territories as specified in the First Schedule of the Constitution . भारतीय संघ में इस समय 25 राज़्य हैं और सात संघ-राज़्य क्षेत्र हैं , जैसाकि संविधान की पहली अनुसूची में उल्लिखित है .

No State could , therefore secede from the Union nor could it suo motu vary its territory as laid down in the First Schedule to the Constitution . इसलिए , कोई भी राज्य संघ से अलग नहीं हो सकता और न ही अपनी मर्जी से संविधान की प्रथम अनुसूची में निर्धारित अपने राज्य क्षेत्र में परिवर्तन कर सकता है .

Andaman and Nicobar Islands , Lakshadweep , Dadra and Nagar Haveli , Daman and Diu , Pondicherry , Chandigarh and Delhi -LRB- First Schedule -RRB- . संप्रति सात संघ-राज्य क्षेत्र हैं अर्थात दिल्ली , अंदमान और निकोबार द्वीप , लक्षदीप , दादरा और नागर हवेली , दमन और दीव , पांडिचेरी तथा चंडीगढ़ ( प्रथम अनुसूची ) .
